Prices of petrol is killing me but i found a great solution.

July 28, 2008

Prices of petrol in Malaysia is RM2.70 per liter. And with this price it is burning a big hole in my pocket.  Most average and poor income earner will definitely feel the burden of it. Everyone will definitely try to find ways of adjustment to such changes in the price hike.

Petrol price in June 2008 was RM1.92 and in July 2008 is RM2.70, a jump of RM0.78. That’s a 78 cents hike which adds up to about 40%. Inflation rate for Jan 2008 was reported to be 3.2% as reported by Bank Negara Statistic Dept. Recent development of petrol hike has manage to raise the inflation rate to all time high 7.7% as reported by Sun Newspaper on 23rd July 2008.

I never really paid much attention to saving fuel. The recent hike in fuel prices has made me become very interested in saving fuel. The surest way you can improve your fuel cost problem is to change your motoring habits.

I recently found 30 tips that are really helpful in saving fuel.

Here are a few:

ENGINE WARM-UP
1. Avoid prolonged warming up of engine, even on cold mornings – 30 to 45 seconds is plenty of time.

2. Be sure the automatic choke is disengaged after engine warm up… chokes often get stuck, resulting in bad gas/air mixture.

3. Don’t start and stop engine needlessly. Idling your engine for one minute consumes the gas amount equivalent to when you start the engine.

4. Avoid “reving” the engine, especially just before you switch the engine off; this wastes fuel needlessly and washes oil down from the inside cylinder walls, owing to loss of oil pressure.

5. Eliminate jack-rabbit starts. Accelerate slowly when starting from dead stop. Don’t push pedal down more than 1/4 of the total foot travel. This allows carburetor to function at peak efficiency.

More tips to come in my next blog…
